It's almost Christmas, and we have our tree up, with all of our special ornaments. We don't have a lot of store-bought-matching ornaments, more of a collection of sentimental ornaments from our childhood, relatives, or special trips we've taken together as a couple. This knitted bell (there's a jingle bell on a string inside) was made for me when I was very young, and I have no idea who it came from, and I'm not sure my mom remembers either. But, it has always been special because someone took the time to make it for me.

When my parents moved to retire, my mom parsed out the special ornaments from our childhood to my sister and me. Now these ornaments hang on our own trees (including the baby Jesus made of a pink index card and strip of light blue polyester fabric with crayon face I made in Sunday School when I was 3 or 4!). It makes me think that I really should be knitting special ornaments for all our nieces (7) so that when they grow up, they will also have their own special knitted ornaments to remember from their childhood.

In knitting news, I'm trying to finish the Debbie Bliss Matinee Jacket from her Simply Baby book. I have one more sleeve, and then assembly. There will be a lot of seaming. I am making in red, and I wanted to finish it by Christmas for my friend's baby, but it will do as a Valentine's day coat for February, too. I should finish it in early January. I really have to start planning for Christmas 2008 in January 2008! Anyway, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!!
